No. The Barrel’s installation is similar to installing a garden hose and requires no professional installation.

Yes. Our plastic contains UV-inhibitors to prevent degradation and minimize discoloration, but we recommend installing your Barrel in a shaded area.

The Barrel can withstand temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If temperatures frequently exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit where you live, we recommend that you install the Barrel in a cool shaded area.

The Barrel is designed to withstand temperatures as low as 36 degrees Fahrenheit. If temperatures drop below 36 degrees where you live, we recommend draining the Barrel or moving it to a warmer place or both.

The Barrel holds 30 gallons of water. The equivalent of roughly 225 16.9oz bottles of water (more than 9 cases).

Like many of today’s shower heads, toilets, and kitchen faucets, the Barrel is also designed with water conservation in mind. Our pressure-reducing valve automatically reduces the water pressure that supplies the water to the Barrel, not enough to prevent you from washing your car or watering your plants, but enough to aid your water conservation efforts.

We recommend using a 25ft 1/2″ drinkable water hose at the exiting spigot of the Barrel for optimal water pressure.

The Barrel is purposefully designed to minimize contaminants. The only way contaminants can enter the Barrel after an emergency is if water is cycled into the Barrel from a contaminated water source—in other words, water in the Barrel can become contaminated if you use your Barrel without first disconnecting it from the contaminated source. In an emergency situation, we recommend that you disconnect your Barrel from your water source as soon as possible after an emergency to prevent potentially contaminated water from mixing with your stored drinking water. If you are unsure if contaminated water has cycled through your Barrel, we recommend draining some of the water into a bucket or other small container to test it for drinkability.

Because our plastic is food-grade, our Barrel does not leave any odors or aftertaste.

The hose that is supplied with the Barrel is safe for drinking, but we cannot certify that the hose you are connecting to the Barrel’s exiting spigot is potable. We recommend that a 1/2″ drinkable water hose be used at the exiting spigot of the Barrel to preserve the exiting waters drinkablity.

Two spigots are needed to allow water to enter and exit the Barrel. We recommended that you use the Barrel’s upper spigot as your inlet; doing so will flush out any sediment collected from your water source when exiting the Barrel’s lower spigot.

How often, and for how long? Yes, we recommend that you connect the Barrel to your outdoor spigot and hose and use it as often as possible. This ensures that water circulates through the Barrel on a regular basis.

Yes, every Barrel goes through QC and is pressure tested before it is shipped out.

Yes. The “Emergency Use Instructions” are printed on the the lid and the lid protects the pressure relief valve on top from being damaged. If you flip the lid upside-down and place it on the ground, you can also use it as a sink.

Yes it does, the base is essential for the Barrel to stand upright. It also serves as an added barrier from the Barrel contacting the ground directly.

First, close all spigots. Next, disconnect all hoses attached to the Barrel to cut off the water source and accompanying pressure, and place a bucket or other container under the Barrel’s upper spigot. When you turn on the Barrel’s upper spigot and open the relief valve that is on top of the Barrel, the water will become gravity-fed and will start to fill your container under the Barrel’s upper spigot. Once the water level drops below the Barrel’s upper spigot, you will then use the Barrel’s lower spigot to extract the remaining water. “Emergency Use Instructions” are printed on the lid of every Barrel.

The Barrel installs between your spigot and your hose. The same pressure from your source spigot that powers your hose and allows the water to stream out also powers the Barrel. This pressure is exerted on the Barrel at all times. If you use your Barrel properly, water will enter and exit the Barrel simultaneously. Once you fill the Barrel with water, there is never any air inside your Barrel – just water.

Yes, the Barrel will work with a Back Flow Preventer, and we recommend using one.

The Barrel weighs approximately 300 lbs. when full. In high-wind conditions, you should close all spigots and store the Barrel’s lid in a secure area.
